UNICEF Seoul Liaison Office leads the overall development, formulation, conception and management of UNICEF's partnership with the government of the Republic of Korea. This includes constant positioning of UNICEF as a partner of choice, relationship management, resource mobilization, horizontal cooperation, and child rights and ODA advocacy. The Office also manages partnerships with the Korean Parliamentarian Friends of UNICEF and engages in child rights advocacy and policy dialogues.

UNICEF Seoul Liaison Office works closely with the Korean Committee for UNICEF (KCU) which leads in fundraising from individuals and 
the private sector, the Child Friendly Cities Initiative, and child rights advocacy in the Republic of Korea.


How can you make a difference?

The UNICEF Internship Programme at UNICEF Seoul Liaison Office (Seoul Global Center, 38 Jongro, Jongno-gu) offers qualified and eligible students the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United 
Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

 

Work assignment and Qualifications :

Under supervision of the Public Partnerships Specialist and/or the Communication Associate, the intern will undertake the following 
activities:

O Learn by providing overall support on communication and advocacy work of the office in line with the associated work plan.

O Learn by assisting in close collaboration with headquarters and country offices for effective communication’s coordination.

O Learn by providing support with Daily Press Monitoring, news clippings of articles, monitor domestic and global policy trends in development and cooperation, and emergency situations (political and humanitarian context).

O Learn by supporting in the production of newsletters, videos, press releases and other visibility materials promoting UNICEF’s work. Assist with updating the webpages and internal intranet site of the UNICEF Seoul Liaison Office. Prepare presentations and other visibility materials, as required, and provide relevant English-Korean/Korean-English translations as necessary.

O Learn by assisting the office’s efforts to strengthen relations with the Government of Korea’s key counterparts to mobilize resources for UNICEF. This includes collecting and organizing information, collating country specific data, preparation of presentation and visibility materials.

O Learn by supporting in the preparation and organization of advocacy events such as policy dialogues, seminars and briefings.

O Learn by providing other technical, logistical and operational assistance as appropriate and required by the supervisor. Assist in facilitating visits of UNICEF officials from HQ and field offices through drafting admin notes, invitation letters and translating materials.

O Any other business required by the supervisor and/or the office.


Duration:

O Full time: 16 May 2022 to 15 November 2022 (5 days per week, 8 hours per day)

  • The period is 6 months but the starting date can be changed according to interview schedule.


Work Conditions:

A monthly stipend will be paid by UNICEF. Interns must pay for their own travel to the duty station, accommodations and living expenses during the internship.  

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off 
UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to start of his/her 
work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern.

Interns are personally responsible for obtaining the necessary visa covering the entire period of the internship.

There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.


To qualify as an advocate for every child you should…

O be enrolled in graduate school in the area of international development/affairs/relations, public policy, public administration, business 
administration, communication, or other related social sciences, or have graduated within the past two years.

O be available for work in the office for 5 days per week (7 hours per day).

O have strong research, analytical, coordination, planning, and communications skills.

O be proficient in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint;

O have the ability to work with people with different backgrounds, including different cultures, gender, religions, races and nationalities etc.

O have strong interest in and knowledge of child rights, child protection, education, health, nutrition, international development 
cooperation and gender equality.

O have fluency in English and Korean (written and oral). Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
