Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG) of the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The incumbent reports to the Under-Secretary-General and to the Chief of Office.
The Office of the USG DPO is in charge of the overall policy direction, supervision and management of the Department.
The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) serves as an integrated "centre of excellence" for United Nations Peace operations, responsible for preventing, responding to and managing conflict and sustaining peace in the context of mandates in countries where peace operations under its purview are deployed. This includes facilitating and implementing political agreements, providing integrated strategic, political, operational and management advice, direction and support to peace operations; developing political, security and integrated strategies, leading integrated analysis and planning of peace operations and backstopping those operations.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Must have passed the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (ASAT) or the Global General Service Test (GGST) at Headquarters or an equivalent locally-administered test at Offices Away from Headquarters.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in general office support functions is required.
Experience supporting high level officials is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
