Research Team of Professor Seongmoon Kim wins KORMS¡¯ ¡®Best Paper Award¡¯

YSB Professor Seongmoon Kim of Operations Research and his students Heon Bae Jeon (4th semester, master’s program), Kyungchan Park (master’s program graduate), and Hongseon Kim (10th semester, Ph.D. program) were awarded the “Best Paper Award” in the fall semiannual conference hosted by the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society (KORMS).

The team won with a paper titled  'A novel approach to portfolio study based on the composition of the In-sample Tangency Portfolio.' This marks the second consecutive year that Professor Kim’s research team has won the top award from KORMS.

 

The society chooses the best paper from those submitted to its competition section. The competition this year was held under the theme of “Business Innovation and the Role of Management Science” on October 27 at Sogang Business School.

 

Heon Bae Jeon graduated from Hanyang University with a major in mathematics. Kyungchan Park graduated from the master’s program of YSB and   is currently in a Ph.D. program in management science at the University of Iowa. Hongseon Kim is in the YSB Ph.D. program  after earning his master’s at YSB. 

 

Professor Seongmoon Kim has been a professor at YSB since 2005. His research interests include management science/medical management/financial engineering.

 

The first author of the paper, Heon Bae Jeon, said, “It is a great honor to win the best paper award of the Korean Operations Research and Management Science Society. This was only possible with the active participation and discussion of my coauthors. I want to share this honor with my fellow colleagues of the lab, and my adviser, Professor Seongmoon Kim.” Kyungchan Park said, “Every professor at YSB, including Professor Seongmoon Kim, has guided me well since my undergraduate years to become a good researcher. I will continue this good research with Heon Bae Jeon and Hongseon Kim, who have studied with me in YSB, which provided the best research environment.”
